First of all, keep in mind that the Greek tax system is fairly complicated, so if you plan on buying property in Greece, you are strongly advised to seek professional assistance. Cretan Resorts property consultants will be happy to expertly advise you on the taxes - and tax exemptions - of every Cretan Resorts property.
As of today, there are several kinds of property taxes in Greece. These taxes are generally determined according to the so-called “objective value” (“antikimeniki axia” in Greek) of the property, which usually is lower than the real market value of the property and is yearly revised basis.
The main of the above taxes is the Greek property transfer tax, which every property buyer in Greece has to pay. The Greek property transfer tax is roughly equal to 10-11% of the objective value of the property, but certain reductions apply based on several parameters, one of them being the exact location of the property.
A big revision in Greek property taxation took place in recent years. According to it, every building licence issued in Greece after January 1st, 2006, is subject to 19% VAT, with the exception of the purchase of the first main residence. As you can see in Our 6 Star Advantages page, Cretan Resorts was thoughtful enough to issue the building licences of the most Douliana Village Project properties before January 1st, 2006. As a result, the most of Douliana Village Project properties are 19% VAT exemptible.
