Vamos village lies in the foothills of the White Mountains (“Lefka Ori” in Greek), at the center of the Apokoronas peninsula. It is the biggest village in the area and the capital of the district of Apokoronas and the municipality of Vamos.

Regarding Vamos’ history, in contrast to the tranquility of the village and its natural surroundings, Vamos was the site of numerous battles in the 19th century, during the Cretan revolution for independence.
