Kefalas village is situated in an advantageous position facing the sea. This is apparent in its name, which means “the one on the top” in Greek. The only thing that matches the stunning scenery is the natural environment of the village.
The buildings in Kefalas feature several architectural styles, the most prominent being the style of the Ottoman occupation era. Today the visitor can find numerous well-renovated buildings in the village, which are a pleasant surprise to the eye. Regarding the village churches, they feature some fine examples of Kefalas’ historically famous 19th century craftsmanship.
As with the other destinations in Apokoronas, Kefalas is an ideal base to explore the Cretan flora and fauna. There are picturesque walking paths to the impressive natural surroundings of one of the greenest parts of Crete.
The distance from Kefalas to Vamos is about 4 km, or less than 5 minutes’ drive. The famous beaches of Georgioupolis and Almirida are a 15 minute drive and Chania city a 30 minute drive.
