Kalives village is a big community that successfully combines tranquillity and mild tourist development. The village is located in possibly the best spot in Souda Bay.
A big part of the village has grown alongside a long road that leads to the excellent sandy beaches of the village (there are two of them: the “cosmopolitan” one in the village, and the “quiet” one about 1 km to the west of the village).
Near the main beach, you can find almost everything: from super markets and wine shops to taverns and bars - and a lot more! The Kalives taverns (“tavernes” in Greek), are indeed famous in the region - that’s the reason you can find more than 15 of them in the village. As in most cases in Crete, the taverns are offering delicious dishes in a very fair price - including all the greek salads you’ve probably already heard about.
Although Kalives is a coastal village, it is also full of trees. Some of them are very close to the beach, offering bathers the luxury of a thick shade - without an umbrella.
Kalives is situated 20 km east of Chania. The village is close to the Chania - Rethymnon main road and getting there by car is really easy.
